Carlos Alcaraz began his French Open title defence with a convincing straight-sets victory over 23-year-old Giulio Zeppieri, winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Speaking after the match, the defending champion said: “It was really solid. The first round of a Grand Slam is never easy, especially coming here as the defending champion,” Alcaraz told a nearly packed court. “I started well and kept a good pace during the match. I tried to be focused on my game, to get a good rhythm. I’m really proud of my start here at Roland Garros.”
Alcaraz will face Fabian Marozsan in the second round. Marozsan advanced after defeating Luca Nardi 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(3).
