Polish politician Grzegorz Braun tore down the European Union flag, wiped his shoes with it, and burned it.

He stated that Poland would not display the symbols of what he called a hostile organization.

While burning the EU flag in Katowice, he said, “This is Poland, not Brussels!” and “Down with Euro-communism!”

He claimed the EU flag represents an “enemy organization” threatening Polish interests, like mining, and insisted Poland should not display such symbols.

His actions sparked controversial debate. Supporters see it as a stand for national sovereignty, while critics call it divisive and note his history of antisemitic behavior, which has led to legal consequences, including the European Parliament stripping his immunity
