There was little left to play for on the final matchday of the 2024/25 NPFL season. With Remo Stars already crowned champions, the CAF interclub qualification spots sealed, and three of the four relegation slots confirmed, the only unresolved matter was the final team to drop to the second tier.
Heartland FC and El-Kanemi Warriors were the only two sides left battling to stay up, with El-Kanemi holding a one-point advantage going into the decisive weekend. Heartland did their part by securing a 2-1 victory over Akwa United, but it wasn’t enough, as El-Kanemi Warriors held their nerve with a narrow 1-0 win against Sunshine Stars to survive by a single point.
Elsewhere, Ikorodu City—fondly nicknamed the “baby of the league” due to their youthful squad—ended their impressive campaign on a high with a thrilling 3-2 win over Abia Warriors.
Champions Remo Stars were dismantled 3-0 away from home by Bayelsa United.
