Ogun State Governor Describes Late Nationalist Adebanjo “As A Pillar Of The Community” During His Wake Keep

The governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun at the wake-Keep of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, the late co-founder of the Afenifere group, a socio-political organization advocating for the rights and interests of the Yoruba people in Nigeria, reflected on his journey, speaking of the late activist’s virtues.

Abiodun described the prominent lawyer and nationalist as a pillar of the community whose “life was one marked by unwavering dedication to the welfare of his people and an unyielding commitment to the values of integrity, justice, and service.”

Honoring the deceased at his residence in Ijebu-ode on Friday where the event took place, the governor pointed out that throughout Adebanjo’s life time he “demonstrated wisdom, selflessness, and courage, always placing the well-being of others above his own.

“His dedication to social causes, his belief in the power of unity, and his unflinching advocacy for truth have left a legacy that will endure for generations.

“Pa Adebanjo was a father to many, a mentor to countless others, and a steadfast leader whose contributions were felt far beyond his immediate community.

“He served as an example of how one person’s influence can positively impact the course of history. His leadership was rooted in humility, and his actions were always in service of the greater good.

“On behalf of the people of Ogun State, I extend our deepest condolences to his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

“We are grateful for the lessons he imparted and for the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him.

“May Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy continue to guide and inspire us all.” He prayed

The nationalist was a key figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey, serving as the organizing secretary of the Action Group and leading the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) during the military era.

He died on February 14 at the age of 96.
