Reno Omokri, former aide to former president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday mocked Labour Party 2023 Presidential aspirant Peter Obi’s silence on social media.
This is coming after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State condemned the presidential aspirant’s lecture at John Hopkins University on the 24th April, claiming that he doesn’t have the right to criticize the ruling administration or de-market the country in a foreign land.
Omokri who posted on his official X handle pointed out that Obi has never gone for this length of time and wondered if the former governor is okay.
His post read: “Four days after the Sanwo Salvo, Peter Obi has not been seen or heard from on social media. Go through Peter Obi’s timeline. Since he declared for the Presidency on Thursday, March 24, 2022, he has never gone this long without posting on social media. I hope all is well after Governor Samwo-Olu Sanwo Salvo!”
Part of Sanwo-Olu’s criticism of Obi read: “When prominent Nigerians go overseas, they ought to project Nigeria positively. They do not have to do that for the government. But we all owe a duty to market Nigeria on the global stage rather than de-market her. That is what true patriotism is about.
“Because Mr. Obi focused on poverty and said that the current administration’s policies are making Nigerians poorer, I will concentrate on that.
“Any leader can fight poverty generationally by promoting education, improving healthcare, providing credit, and granting access to land.
“Now, I find it somewhat ironic that a man like Mr. Obi, who did not build a single school or a standalone hospital throughout his eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra or sustainably provide credit facilities, would criticise the Government of Nigeria, which is actively doing that.
“As such, I am not sure that Mr. Obi is morally well placed to make the alarming claims he made about Nigeria at Johns Hopkins.
“Mr. Obi contributed to the increase in poverty in Nigeria. Governor Tinubu, as he then was, was responsible for lifting millions out of poverty.” Lagos state governor added.
This critique has caused back and forth from the ruling party’s supporters and same thing goes for Peter Obi’s hardcore fans (Obidients), whom has backlashed Sanwo-Olu statement.
@IkeGod_: “Hey jide sanwoolu, well-meaning Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora are deeply concerned that you may be off your meds again or engaging in high dosage of Mkpurummiri as to try effortlessly to disparage the gigantic records of H.E. Peter Obi on Education and poverty reduction in Nigeria?
“A Peter Obi who transformed education in Anambra pushing the State from No. 27 in Nigeria to No. 1 is whom you are comparing with a druggie like @officialABAT who successfully pushed millions of Lagos kids as out of school children, turning them into agberos, area boys, touts, and street gangsters?
“We challenge you to name and provide empirically verified photos of the so-called 200 schools Tinubu built in Lagos, and its impact on education in Lagos State?”
@GreatNiger18291: “Peter Obi looks for every negative reasons to deride this administration. Now that a governor has confronted his statement by asking for his past as a governor that supports his claim of being Worthy, he’s surprised. He knows henceforth, his statement would be used against him.”
