25-Year-Old Internally Displaced Woman Delivered Of Quadruplets In Benue

A 25-year-old internally displaced woman, Shidoo Tortiv, has given birth to a set of quadruplets, two boys and two girls, in Benue State, drawing both celebration and concern amidst her family’s difficult living conditions.

Shidoo and her husband, Wilfred Tortiv, originally from Ucha village in Gwer West Local Government Area. They were forced to flee their home due to ongoing insecurity and have been taking shelter with relatives in Kula, a nearby community within the same council area.

At the time of the birth, the family was not living in an official Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.

Tortiv said the birth took place at home around 6pm on Saturday, assisted by local midwives.

“There was no time to get to the hospital because she went into labour and delivered within an hour. Besides, we did not have the means to pay for hospital bills,” Tortiv revealed

He explained that this was his wife’s third delivery, disclosing that their first and second children are boys, while the new addition consists of two boys and two girls, making the family’s sudden expansion all the more challenging.

We’re at the teaching hospital now. My wife and the babies are doing fine,” the elated father added amid plea for further assistance from good spirited individuals.

The Benue State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Aondowase Kunde, confirmed the birth in a phone interview, noting that the state government had taken swift action upon receiving news of the case.

According to Aondowase Kunde, Benue State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Governor Hyacinth Alia immediately directed that the mother and her newborns be transferred to a hospital for proper medical care.
