Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal. The Saudi club was prepared to pay Manchester United £100m for Fernandes and offer the Portuguese international a wage of £700,000 per week. However, Fernandes decided to stay at Old Trafford.
Speaking to the Portuguese press, Bruno revealed, “There was an opportunity. The president called me and asked if I wanted to go there. They were waiting for me. I spoke to coach Amorim, and he asked me not to go. Manchester United didn’t want to sell me. They don’t need the money. If I had wanted to leave, they would have made it happen.”
He also shared that Al Hilal spoke to his wife: “They were very kind. They spoke to my agent, and then I spoke to my wife. She asked, ‘What do you want to do?’ She always supports my decisions. It would have been easy to move there. I know the Portuguese players there very well. But I want to play at the highest level and compete for major titles. I can do that, and I still want to. I’m very passionate about football.”
Fernandes has been at Manchester United since 2020, signing from Sporting CP for £47m. He has won two trophies with the club and has scored 62 goals, providing 51 assists in 195 Premier League appearances.
