The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for their swift and professional response in preventing what could have been a devastating tanker fire accident in the state.
The near-tragedy unfolded close to the NYSC Secretariat Junction when a fully-loaded tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit lost balance while attempting to navigate into a filling station.
The precarious situation sparked panic among residents and motorists in the densely populated area, raising fears of a deadly explosion.
However, the timely intervention of FRSC officers, supported by other emergency units, led to the safe evacuation of the vehicle and effective traffic management that prevented loss of life and property.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf praised the FRSC Kano Sector Command, the Federal Fire Service, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and the Kano Road Traffic Agency, for their dedication and emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in crisis response. “We could have been mourning today, but thanks to the bravery and professionalism of the FRSC team, a major disaster was averted,” he said.
He also called on tanker drivers and fleet operators to adhere to strict vehicle maintenance standards and safety regulations to avoid future occurrences.
Yusuf noted further that “Their bravery and timely action not only prevented a disaster but also ensured the safety of lives and properties and restored normal traffic flow in a highly sensitive location.”
He urged petroleum tanker drivers and filling station operators to adhere to strict vehicle maintenance standards and safety regulations during loading and offloading to avoid future occurrences.
