The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Benin Branch (Lion Bar) Human Rights Committee vehemently condemns the egregious and unwarranted brutal assault meted out to two citizens today by the Environmental Task Force of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. This reprehensible act, which occurred within the Mobile Court premises, not only constitutes a gross infringement on the victims’ fundamental human rights, particularly their right to a fair hearing but is a desecration of the hallowed premises of the Mobile court. Injustice in the house of justice! An aberration of monumental proportions.

The Committee unequivocally asserts that the actions of the Environmental Task Force were ultra vires, exceeding their statutory powers and amounting to a flagrant disregard for the rule of law. Such brazen displays of force and impunity undermine the very fabric of our democracy and the principles of justice.

DEMAND FOR JUSTICE

The NBA Benin Branch (Lion Bar) Human Rights Committee demands that the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government authorities:

1. Immediately identify and fish out the perpetrators of this heinous act.
2. Ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law and are brought to justice.
3. Take concrete measures to prevent such abuses in the future.
