Carreras Rejoins Real Madrid In €50m Deal After Five Years Away

Real Madrid have confirmed the return of Álvaro Carreras in a €50 million move, marking his comeback to the Spanish capital after a ten-year absence. The 22-year-old defender was officially unveiled on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the club’s headquarters, where he was welcomed by President Florentino Pérez and handed the No. 18 shirt.

Carreras, who left the club as a teenager, returns to the Santiago Bernabéu with a point to prove and an emotional message:

  • “I came here as a boy and came back as a man. I promise to give everything I have. I will fight for every minute on the pitch and give my absolute all.”

He added:

  • “It means everything—fulfilling a dream, returning to what was once my home. I’m really looking forward to this new challenge.”

The Spaniard becomes the second-most expensive defender in Real Madrid’s history, following Dean Huijsen, who also joined the club this summer.
