A Chinese Navy vessel operating out its base in Djibouti has fired a laser at a German Air Force plane flying over the Red Sea.
According to the German Foreign Office in a statement: “The Chinese military employed a laser targeting a German aircraft in the EU operation #ASPIDES.
“Endangering German personnel & disrupting the operation is entirely unacceptable. The Chinese ambassador was summoned to the Federal Foreign Office today.”
Germany plays an important role in the EU military mission ASPIDES meant to stop Houthi attacks.
ASPIDES is a European Union military mission launched in February 2024, aimed at ensuring maritime security.
We can say that China is de facto enabling Russia’s war economy, and we cannot accept this,” said von der Leyen.
