South American giants Fluminense pulled off a shock 2-0 victory over UEFA Champions League Finalists Inter Milan to advance to the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Fluminense took the lead as early as the third minute when Germán Cano’s header slipped between Yann Sommer’s legs.
Inter Milan created several chances to equalize—Lautaro Martínez struck the woodwork, and Federico Dimarco came close from a free-kick—but they couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Despite relentless pressure from the Italian side, Fluminense sealed the win in stoppage time through Hércules, who scored in the 93rd minute.
After the match, Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martínez expressed his frustration, questioning the team’s mentality. He said:
“I want to fight for top titles. Whoever wants to stay at Inter—very good—let’s fight. Whoever doesn’t want to stay, they can go and leave.”
“We need players who want to be here. We are wearing an important jersey. We need a top mentality or please, leave.”
