FRMF Petition CAF To Suspend Namibian Referee For Failing To Award Them A Penalty During The WAFCON Final Against Nigeria.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has submitted an official protest to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa, who handled the WAFCON final against Nigeria

As reported by Morocco World News, the FRMF claimed that the Centre Referee failed to award a “clear” penalty in the 82nd minute, with the score level at 2-2 during the finals.

FRMF aggravation is against how the referee handled the game especially her refusal to hand them a penalty after a VAR review, following a handball incident against Nigeria who came from two goals down to win the game 3-2 against the host.

Video evidence suggested a potential handball by Super Falcons defender Tosin Demehin, but following a video assistant referee (VAR) review, the referee overturned her initial decision.

The Moroccan federation argued that the controversial decision had a decisive impact on the outcome of the match, which Nigeria went on to win, claiming a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

Moroccan head coach, Jorge Vilda, who previously led Spain to victory at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, remarked after the match: “It was a small detail that cost us the game.”
