The officer killed in the Midtown shooting today was Bangladeshi New Yorker Didarul Islam, aged, 36, leaves behind two kids, aged 7 and 5, and his wife who is 8 months pregnant with a third.

The off-duty police officer was killed while attempting to stop today’s shooting, he has worked for 3 ½ years with the police department

Mayor Eric Adams in a posted sadly expressed: “Tonight, our city is reeling and four innocent families are mourning, including the family of NYPD Officer Didarul Islam who was killed at 345 Park Avenue.

“He represented the best of New York City, an immigrant from Bangladesh who put on a uniform to protect and serve us all.”

NYPD mourn one of their own: “”We join in prayer during this time of incomprehensible pain. We will forever honor his legacy.”
