The elderly couple were seen sitting on a long wooden bench beside their hut till 2018, when Google Maps only photographed the wife without her husband.

Long story short, at the same point in 2023, the elderly couple was no longer in the Google Maps recording.

What happened in 2024 was predictable: The hut was razed to the ground. It no longer stood as a milestone in the love story of the two elderly people.

A neighbor named Basuki said that he knew the two elderly people and even often sent them food.

“The husband died in 2023, while the wife, who is still alive, was brought home by her family to Wonogiri,” said Basuki when met by kumparan on Friday (16/5).

The Wonogiri referred to is in Ngadirejo District.

According to Basuki, Karto and Warsini moved to Solo when they were young.

Living in a Hut Until Death

The hut is a soto food stall, a business that Karto and Warsini have been running for a long time.

“Before living there, they moved around a lot. Because they were old, the landowner gave them permission to live in the stall hut until they died,” Basuki said.

The house behind the stall used to be a shoe factory, and factory employees often ate at the stall.

“Now the factory has closed down and is being used to sell bags,” he said.

Now Only Memories Remain

Now, the warmth of that elderly home is only a memory. The hut has been demolished.

“Because the house was empty, the landowner demolished it. Some of the household furniture is still being stored at my house,” said Basuki.

Another resident, Sri Rejeki, said the elderly couple had lived in the Jagalan sub-district area for decades.

“They also sell satay skewers. He (Karto) also has the skill of healing fussy (crying) children who are disturbed by spirits. They don’t have any children,” said Sri.
