Lagos State Commissioner Of Police Dissolve Tactical Squad Team For Harassing A Citizen Over A Pair Of Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses During A Stop And Search

The Lagos state commissioner of police CP Olohundare Jimoh has dissolved an entire tactical squad and order immediate detention of the team.

This is coming after a resident in Lagos state upload a video of an unidentified policeman harassing him for wearing a pair of sunshade during a stop and search during the week.

The driver had been wearing a Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses, upon seeing it the policeman had hit the victim, kept saying “you are camering a police abi”, while demanding his victim remove his pair of glasses and It was reported that the police has extorted him of #200,000 as well.

The Lagos state police PRO SP Benjamin Hundehin in a statement late on Friday revealed that the police had investigated the matter and “the officers will face an orderly room trial in line with established disciplinary procedures to ensure justice is served swiftly and transparently.

“In addition, the entire Tactical Squad implicated in this matter has been dissolved with immediate effect. A new Tactical Squad has been constituted, comprising officers who will adhere strictly to international best practices in policing.

“This new unit will operate with zero tolerance for corruption, while upholding the highest standards of respect for human rights and human dignity.” He assured citizens in the statement.

Adding that “the Lagos State Police Command remains committed to serving and protecting the public with integrity and fairness. We urge all residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies and to report any misconduct through our established channels.”
