Kasper Hjulmand is set to become Bayer Leverkusen’s new head coach. The club has been searching for a replacement since Erik ten Hag was dismissed.
The German side had both former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and Hjulmand on their shortlist but ultimately felt that Hjulmand was the best fit for the club.
Hjulmand previously coached the Danish national team, managing Denmark for four years. During his tenure, he led the team to the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2020, qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and UEFA Euro 2024.
The 53-year-old is no stranger to the Bundesliga. He managed Mainz 05 from 15 May 2014 to 17 February 2015. However, his performance in Germany’s top flight was underwhelming—Mainz were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal, and he left the club in 14th place.
