Emma Raducanu was knocked out of the China Open after a dramatic third-round loss to Jessica Pegula. The British No. 1 was close to booking a place in the Round of 16, but after holding a 5-2 lead in the second set and failing to convert three match points, she allowed Pegula to come from behind and win 7-6 (9) in the tie-break.
Matters only got worse in the final set, as Emma was routed 6-0 by the world No. 7, ending the match with a disappointing scoreline of 3-6, 7-6 (9), 6-0.
This defeat wasn’t the first time Raducanu has experienced a heartbreaking loss like this. Just weeks ago, she suffered a similar fate at the Korea Open, where she also failed to convert match points in a second-set tie-break against Barbora Krejcikova.
With her loss to Pegula, Raducanu’s record against top-10 players now stands at nine defeats in nine encounters.
