Fatal Road Accident On Lagos Road, Ikorodu, Claims One Life, Leaving Others Critically Injured

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal road accident that claimed one life and left two others critically injured on Lagos Road, Ikorodu, less than 24 hours after a previous incident on the same axis.
According to a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, the crash occurred at the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto corridor and involved a commercial Mazda bus (LND 490 SD) and a fully loaded truck (EKY 121 YJ).
Preliminary investigations by security operatives revealed that the Mazda bus, while allegedly recklessly jockeying for right of way from the Agric axis, collided with the fast-moving truck. In the chaos, a male passenger seated dangerously at the doorway of the bus was thrown out and crushed under the rear tyres of the truck, resulting in instant death.
Two other passengers, a man and a woman sustained severe injuries. LASTMA personnel, with support from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and the Owutu Police Division, conducted a swift rescue operation, transporting the injured to Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent medical care.
The deceased’s body was later handed over to his family by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
The two vehicles involved in the crash were subsequently evacuated to clear the roadway and restore normal traffic flow along the busy corridor.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and urged all motorists to exercise patience, caution, and responsibility on Lagos roads, particularly in high-traffic areas like the Ikorodu corridor.
“In moments like this, we are reminded of the importance of safety and restraint on our roads,” Bakare-Oki said.
Adding that “We must prioritize human life over haste.”
