The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to all private vehicle owners to immediately stop displaying stickers from various transport unions and associations. The agency stated that some motorists use these stickers to impersonate commercial drivers and flout traffic regulations.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued the warning in a statement on Sunday signed by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo.

Bakare-Oki described the practice as a breach of regulatory standards, a security risk, and an attempt to undermine lawful vehicle identification systems in Lagos.

He emphasised that under the state’s security framework, all vehicles must be properly registered through constitutionally empowered government agencies.

“Unauthorised identifiers compromise public safety, obstruct effective law enforcement, and weaken the integrity of statutory registration protocols,” he warned.

The LASTMA chief stressed that the Lagos State Government would not tolerate attempts to evade registration procedures with unlawful stickers or symbols.

He added that LASTMA, working with security agencies and other enforcement bodies, would intensify surveillance along major routes to ensure strict compliance with traffic laws.

Vehicles found with unauthorised stickers, he said, would be impounded and offenders sanctioned in line with legal provisions.

Bakare-Oki urged transport union members to comply with registration laws, noting that proper registration safeguards public order and enhances the collective security of residents.

He appealed for stakeholders’ cooperation in sanitising the transport sector, assuring that enforcement efforts would continue to prioritise the safety of lives and property across the state.

The agency appealed to Lagos residents to support its efforts to ensure the free flow of traffic, emphasizing that only vehicles registered for commercial purposes are allowed to display such union stickers.
