Ex-Nigeria international Onome Ebi has officially retired from professional football. She is a legend of African football, having captained the Super Falcons and earned the most caps in the team’s history, with 109 appearances.
The 43-year-old announced her retirement via Instagram, sharing a heartfelt message:
“Today, I officially retire from professional football. The journey has been filled with challenges, victories, and lessons that have shaped me into who I am today. Though I hang up my boots, my purpose in the game continues—to give back, to guide, and to be a voice for players across Africa and beyond. Thank you.”
Onome won four African Cup of Nations titles with Nigeria and represented the country at six FIFA World Cup tournaments. She was the first player, male or female, to achieve that remarkable feat and remains the only African to have done so to this day.
