Romero Denies Reports Of Plans To Leave Tottenham Last Season

Cristian Romero has insisted that he never wanted to leave Tottenham Hotspur, dismissing claims that he considered an exit last season.

“I never said I wanted to leave the club. Nothing came from me in that effect. It is important what the manager and president say,” Romero stated.

“I’m very happy here. It’s a family, one big family. I’ve been very happy since Thomas arrived. He made the decision to extend my contract. I like the manager, the way we are working together.”

“Always things can improve and that’s what we have to do day by day. I’m very happy here and that’s the key.”

“Sometimes in football, things come out in the media… but I never said I wanted to leave the club. Nothing came from me in that effect. It is important what the manager and president say.”

“I am very happy here, it feels like a family. I like the manager, I like the way we work, the way we train. Always things can improve, but I think everyone here at all levels is taking the right steps to improve. I am very happy here.”

“I always want the best for the club. I now see a structure that is really positive, one in which we can really grow. I see a club with great organisation and with a manager that is showing real positivity in the short time he has been with us.”

“My head is focused on the next game. It is all about concentrating on Tottenham and making sure we get a win tomorrow.”

Romero was linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, with Atlético Madrid reportedly interested in him, but nothing materialised. Spurs signed Romero from Atalanta for £42.5 million in 2021. The Argentina international played a crucial role in the club’s Europa League triumph last season and was named captain at the start of this campaign.
