The First Brother And Sister Siblings To Hold Chess Grandmaster Title, Indian Vaishali Rameshbabu, Her Brother Praggnanandhaa R And Their Mom During FIDE 2025

Vaishali Rameshbabu emerged as the winners of the FIDEGrandSwiss 2025, born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 21 June 2001, she’s the older sister of Grand Master Praggnanandhaa R.

She also won the 2023 FIDE Women’s Grand Swiss with an 8.5/11 score, thus qualifying for the 2024 Candidates months after her brother did so at the 2023 FIDE World Cup.

The Grandmaster brother-sister duo became a sensation when Praggnanandhaa and Vaishali Rameshbabu made their debut at Norway Chess in June 2024 where Praggnanandhaa took 3rd place, while Vaishali finished 4th in the inaugural edition of Norway Chess Women 2024.

Praggnanandhaa, is one of India’s youngest and most remarkable chess prodigies, he defeated his teacher GM Boris Gelfand in Round 3 of FIDE Grand Swiss 2025

He won the Tata Steel Masters 2025 to become the first Indian since Viswanathan Anand in 2006.

their father, Rameshbabu, works as a branch manager at TNSC Bank, and her mother, Nagalakshmi, is a homemaker. 

Praggnanandhaa trained in chess at Chennai’s Velammal Institutions, a renowned school for nurturing Grandmasters, under the guidance of Grandmaster RB Ramesh.
