Trade union representing senior-level employees in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria—PENGASSAN in a statement on Monday expressed shock at the refusal of Dangote Refinery to allow staff unionism.
“At 9:59 PM on September 25th, 2025, while Nigerian staff were still processing the forced evacuation of the complex, the final shock arrived: ”Your Services are no longer required.”
“For years, we heard the warnings in the halls of Marble House: “Dangote Workers will never be unionised”. In the Lekki Free Zone, the threats were harsher m: “Unions are illegal here and the company could simply dismiss us & hire 100% foreigners”.
“We used to dismiss them as tales of the ancients, now seeing no Nigerian in a technical role, we are shocked to realise those threats have become a devastating reality.”
