LAGOS TASKFORCE CLEARS IYANA-IBA OF STREET TRADING AND ILLEGAL TICKETERS ON THE ROADS
In continuation of the Agency’s clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of street trading, display of goods on the roads, illegal ticketers, unauthorized blockage of roads, operation of illegal bus stops, and other environmental violations in the State, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce today embarked on its ongoing clean-up enforcement operation at Iyana-Iba and the Ojo area of the State .
The areas visited during the operation included Iyana-Iba and other adjoining roads, where some recalcitrant street traders displayed their goods on the newly constructed roads, constituting a nuisance on the highways, walkways, and adjoining roads along the stretch of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
During the raid exercise, a total of 21 suspects were arrested, comprising 15 males and 6 females suspected to be street traders. All goods and wares displayed on the roads were confiscated, and sanity was restored in all the affected areas.
All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly, while the confiscated goods will be forfeited to the State through the court, in line with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Laws of 2017 and the Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
CSP Akerele warned against trading on the highways, which impedes the free flow of traffic and increases the travel time of innocent motorists.
The Chairman enjoined all street traders, illegal ticketers, and operators of unapproved bus stops on the highways to desist henceforth or risk being caught by the long arm of the law.
