Nwabali, Williams, Mendy and El Shenawy lead the race for CAF Goalkeeper of the Year Award

CAF has announced the nominees for the Goalkeeper of the Year Award, with last year’s nominee Ronwen Williams once again making the list. The nominees are Yassine Bounou (Al Hilal & Morocco), Aymen Dahmen (CS Sfaxien & Tunisia), Marc Diouf (TP Mazembe & Senegal), Edouard Mendy (Al-Ahli & Senegal), Munir Mohamedi (RS Berkane & Morocco), Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United & Nigeria), Andre Onana (Trabzonspor & Cameroon), and Ahmed El Shenawy (Pyramids & Egypt).

Among the nominees, four goalkeepers stand out as favorites for the award: Edouard Mendy, Ahmed El Shenawy, Stanley Nwabali, and Ronwen Williams.

Mendy played a key role in helping Al Hilal reach the FIFA Club World Cup final in Qatar, making crucial saves against Manchester City and Real Madrid. El Shenawy was instrumental in Pyramids’ remarkable season, guiding the club to three international trophies, including the CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup, while also helping Egypt secure qualification for the FIFA World Cup.

Williams enjoyed a successful campaign with Mamelodi Sundowns, winning the PSL title, competing in the FIFA Club World Cup where his side earned four points in the group stage, and playing a vital role in South Africa’s World Cup qualification.

Nwabali, on the other hand, was a key figure for Nigeria, helping the Super Eagles qualify for both the AFCON and World Cup playoffs while also ensuring Chippa United maintained their top-flight status in the South African league.
