Sunderland defeated Chelsea 2-1 to hand the Blues their second league defeat of the season. Chelsea opened the scoring through Alejandro Garnacho, but goals from Wilson Isidor and Morocco international Chemsdine Talbi secured the win for Sunderland.
After the match, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca was critical of his team’s performance stating:“We were not good enough.
“When you are not good enough in the Premier League, the consequence can be a bad one. When you can’t win, it’s important you don’t lose. The second goal is not a transition, it’s a long ball and we don’t defend properly,” he said.
Maresca also acknowledged the team’s lack of creativity: “Lack of creativity. We didn’t create a lot apart from the goal probably. We need our players to perform 100 percent. Even at 1-0, we lost some second balls and against this team, we need to win them.”
Chelsea’s next two matches are against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
