Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on October 17, 2025, will launch the €410 million OMI EKO Project, at Five Cowries Terminal to revolutionize water transportation.
The project is a major initiative aimed at improving water transportation across Lagos State, which is being implemented by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), backed by the European Union, the French Development Agency, and the European Investment Bank.
The six-year initiative includes deploying 78 electric ferries, dredging 140 kilometers of routes, and upgrading terminals with digital ticketing to reduce road congestion and emissions.
It aligns with the state’s THEMES+ agenda to enhance economic growth and sustainable mobility in Africa’s most populous city.
