Atletico Madrid secured a dramatic 2–1 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League, ending the Italian side’s perfect start to the campaign and climbing the Spanish side up the group standings.

The home side struck early in the ninth minute when Julian Alvarez opened the scoring. A precise cross from Simeone found Baena, who laid the ball off perfectly for Alvarez to fire home and give Atletico the lead.

Inter Milan responded in the 54th minute, with Ange Yoan Bonny threading a perfectly timed pass to Piotr Zielinski, who made no mistake in converting his first Champions League goal for the club to level the scores.

As the match looked set to finish in a draw, veteran Antonio Griezmann delivered a pinpoint header into the box, which Jose Gimenez converted with a decisive header of his own, securing all three points for Atletico Madrid.

The result saw Inter Milan drop to fourth in the group standings, ending their unbeaten run, while Atletico Madrid climbed to 12th.
