CAF Clears Wilfred Ndidi For Nigeria’s World Cup Playoff Vs. DR Congo

The Confederation of African Football—CAF—has ruled that yellow cards from World Cup qualifiers do not carry over to the playoff stage, confirming Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi’s eligibility for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their single-match showdown against DR Congo in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday.

The Super Eagles released the information on its official handle on Saturday stating: “CAF has confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi is eligible to feature for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s playoff clash against DR Congo.

“Cautions accumulated during the World Cup qualifiers do not carry over into the playoffs; only confirmed suspensions apply.” It added

This decision resolves earlier uncertainty over Ndidi’s two bookings and bolsters Nigeria’s midfield options under coach Eric Chelle.

A victory would secure Nigeria’s return to the World Cup for the first time since 2018.
