Newcastle United Secure 2-0 Win Over Athletic Bilbao In Champions League

Newcastle United claimed a 2-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao in Gameweek Four of the UEFA Champions League, with Daniel Burn and Joelinton on the scoresheet.

After the match, head coach Eddie Howe reflected on the performance:

“Really pleased with today. It was an important response to (losing to) West Ham. We had a quick turnaround for this game. I don’t think it was us at our best, but we’re in a good position now in this competition.”

He also praised Burn’s goal:

“Probably technically it is [Dan Burn’s header] but it will be very difficult for him to do something as magical and memorable as that. In terms of a technical header, that was an incredible finish.”

Howe highlighted the positives from the match:

“One of the positives is that we had this match this week after West Ham. It was an opportunity to put that poor performance behind us and correct some mistakes. There were real positives tonight; defensively we looked good, and we scored two wonderful goals.”

With this win, Newcastle have claimed three victories from their opening four Champions League fixtures this season and currently sit sixth in the group standings.
