Nigeria Advance to CAF World Cup Playoffs Final After 4–1 Victory Over Gabon

Nigeria booked their place in the CAF World Cup Playoffs Final with an emphatic 4–1 win over Gabon, a match that stretched into extra time before the Super Eagles took full control. Akor Adams opened the scoring, Chidera Ejuke added another, and Victor Osimhen sealed the victory with a brilliant brace—his 30th and 31st international goals. Osimhen now boasts an impressive record of 31 goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances for Nigeria.

The match also marked a significant milestone for Alex Iwobi, who earned his 90th cap after a decade of consistent service to the national team, delivering a strong 108-minute performance in midfield.

Gabon manager Eric Chelle praised his players despite the defeat, emphasizing their spirit: “The word today was passion. I don’t want to talk about what happened before. Since I came, we try to create an identity. The reality is, this is nothing. Maybe after the second game, we can smile.”

The Super Eagles know the mission is not yet complete. They will face DR Congo in the Playoffs Final after the Leopards edged Cameroon 1–0 to advance to the FIFA InterContinental World Cup Qualifiers Playoffs.

Nigeria and DR Congo will clash on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 8 PM at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, Morocco, with a World Cup ticket on the line.
