A Nigerian man from Plateau State in a viral video detailing his failed attempt to deliver a letter to the U.S. Ambassador in Abuja, seeking asylum due to attacks on Christians and expressing interest in joining the U.S. military.
“I went to submit a letter to the U.S. Ambassador, but the Nigerian security officers there told me they had to go through my letter before forwarding it to the Ambassador. These people don’t want the U.S. to know what is truly going on in Nigeria.
“…you see this whole thing, it will have to stop, I promise you” he emphasized
The incident occurs amid escalating sectarian violence in the Middle Belt, including recent killings of at least 17 Christians along the Plateau-Kaduna border by suspected Fulani militants.
President Donald Trump has warned of potential U.S. aid cuts or strikes if Nigeria fails to address the violence, while the Nigerian government attributes the clashes to resource disputes and welcomes counterterrorism support.
