Trinidadian rapper and singer Nicki Minaj teamed up with U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz, both will deliver remarks on November 18 at a UN event highlighting the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, where jihadist violence has killed over 5,000 this year.
The unexpected collaboration was arranged by Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz who will also speak at the Tuesday event.
Waltz in a post described Minaj as “…not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.
He praised her for using her platform to speak out against Christians’ persecution in Nigeria, adding further that: “I look forward to standing with her as we discuss the steps the President and his administration are taking to end the persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters.”
The rapper in a response to the ambassador appraisal of her confirmed her involvement, pointing out that she won’t back down: “I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude. I do not take it for granted. It means more than you know.
“The Barbz & I will never stand down in the face of injustice. We’ve been given our influence by God. There must be a bigger purpose. “
The panel, moderated by Harris Faulkner and Christian leaders, will discuss U.S. actions such as designating Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern for religious freedom violations.
Minaj’s participation aims to use her 150 million social media followers to raise global awareness of attacks by groups like Boko Haram and Fulani militants on churches and villages in Nigeria’s north and Middle Belt.
