The United States has upgraded the terrorist designation of Nicolás Maduro’s Cartel de los Soles —a criminal network allegedly led by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and involving high-ranking officials—  previously designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Group (SDGT), has now been elevated to a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

Rubio in an announcement wrote: “State Department intends to designate Cartel de los Soles as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). 

“Headed by the illegitimate Nicolás Maduro, the group has corrupted the institutions of government in Venezuela and is responsible for terrorist violence conducted by and with other designated FTOs as well as for trafficking drugs into the United States and Europe.”

This allows the United States to take more significant action against the Maduro cartel such as asset freezes, and potential military measures against the group’s drug trafficking operations and ties to entities like the ELN and Sinaloa Cartel.

As of now, the Chavista regime is officially an enemy of the state.
