United Bank of Africa chairperson Tony Elumelu has cancelled his 2025 annual ‘Whit Christmas’ party to honor victims the Afriland fire, stating this year will be dedicated to extending support to affected families.
The fire, which broke out at the high-rise building on Broad Street, claimedthe lives of six staff member: Jesutoni Shodipo, 21 years, Compliance Department; Kehinde Adeoye, 36 years, Compliance Department; Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke, 41 years, Trustee; Olumide Oyefodunrin, 27 years, Trust Officer; Opeyemi Oloyede, 26 years, Compliance Intern; and Rebecca Adenuga, 26 years, Wealth Management Department.
In a statement via his Instagram story, Elumelu said he and his wife Awele made the difficult decision to suspend this year’s celebration following the tragedy.
