Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, announced his defection from the PDP to the APC on Thursday in Abuja, renaming his group the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation to rally members behind Tinubu’s 2027 re-election and Renewed Hope Agenda.
He was received by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin and the National Vice Chairman of the APC, North East, Mustafa Salihu, Thursday evening, in Abuja.
Atiku responded calmly, calling it his son’s personal choice and reaffirming his commitment to critiquing APC governance while pursuing his own presidential bid with the ADC.
His statement read: “The decision of my son, Abba Abubakar, to join the APC is entirely personal. In a democracy, such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect.
“As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians.
“What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people.
“I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope, and progress.” The former Vice President added.
The move drew mixed online reactions, from critics questioning Atiku’s opposition unity to supporters praising his democratic stance.
