Governor Abdulrazaq Suspends Kwara State Poly Rector, Orders Probe Into Students’

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has suspended the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, following a recent students’ protest that disrupted academic activities at the institution.

The Kwara governor also approved the constitution of a three-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the protest and the role played by the management of the polytechnic.

The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, said the committee has been given two weeks to submit its report to the governor.

It added that the terms of reference of the committee include identifying both the remote and immediate causes of the protest, examining how the situation was handled, and recommending measures to prevent a recurrence.

“The committee is also expected to make further recommendations aimed at promoting the growth and stability of the institution.

“As part of immediate steps taken by the state government, Governor AbdulRazaq has directed the Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, to step aside from office pending the outcome of the investigation,” the statement read in part.

According to the statement, the most senior Deputy Rector has been asked to take charge of the institution in an acting capacity.

“The committee will engage with all relevant stakeholders in the course of carrying out its assignment,” the commissioner said.
