Jean-Philippe Mateta Seeks Crystal Palace Exit Amid European Ambitions

Jean-Philippe Mateta and his representatives have informed Crystal Palace of the striker’s desire to leave the club. Mateta is keen to join a top side competing in the UEFA Champions League or at least the Europa League, believing regular exposure at European level would improve his chances of securing a place in France’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Discussions are currently ongoing with Aston Villa and Juventus, with the player hopeful that a solution can be reached in the coming weeks.

Mateta has been a long-serving figure at Crystal Palace, making 185 appearances for the club. He has two years remaining on his current contract, which runs until June 2027. He has played a key role in the club’s recent success, including victories in the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2025.

Across all competitions, Mateta has scored 56 goals and provided 13 assists during his time at Crystal Palace, underlining his importance to the club in recent seasons.
