Nigeria finished AFCON 2025 on a high note, defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties to claim the Bronze medal. The match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, with no extra time played, sending the teams straight to a shootout.
Four of Nigeria’s five penalty takers were successful, including Akor Adams, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, and Ademola Lookman, who converted the decisive spot-kick. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was the standout in the shootout, saving penalties from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.
This marks Nigeria’s third medal in the last four AFCON tournaments, following Bronze in 2019, Silver in 2023, and Bronze in 2025. Overall, the Super Eagles have now won the Bronze medal nine times in their history.
The medal is also the first for Nigeria under manager Eric Chelle.
