Paris Saint-Germain lifted the Trophée des Champions after a thrilling encounter against Olympique Marseille. The match ended 2-2 in regulation time, with PSG eventually triumphing 4-1 in the penalty shootout.
Ousmane Dembélé opened the scoring for PSG in the 13th minute. After Vitinha rushed into a clearance, he found Dembélé, who controlled the ball and delicately lifted it over Gerónimo Rulli to put PSG ahead. Marseille responded late in the game, with Mason Greenwood converting a penalty in the 76th minute, sending goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier the wrong way to level the score.
Marseille thought they had snatched the victory in the 87th minute when William Pacho accidentally put the ball into his own net. The stadium erupted in celebration, only for PSG to snatch a dramatic equalizer in the 95th minute. Gonçalo Ramos rose to the occasion, finding the back of the net and sending the game straight to penalties, as no extra time was played.
The shootout saw Lucas Chevalier become PSG’s hero, saving two crucial penalties from James O’Riley and Hamed Traore, securing a 4-1 victory for the Parisians.
The trophy is Luis Enrique 10th as Paris Saint-Germain manager: French Super Cup (2), Ligue 1 (2), French Cup (2), Champions League (1), FIFA Intercontinental Cup (1), and UEFA Super Cup (1).
