Ademola Lookman delivered an impressive performance on his debut for Atlético Madrid, scoring a goal and providing an assist in a dominant 5–0 demolition of Real Betis in the Copa del Rey. The Nigerian forward made an immediate impact, playing a key role in a commanding display from Diego Simeone’s side.
Lookman was one of the standout players on the night, leading the game with three successful dribbles and seven duels won, while also completing 38 passes. He created numerous chances and consistently troubled the Real Betis defence with his pace, strength, and direct running.
Atlético Madrid’s other goals came from David Hancko, Antoine Griezmann, and Thiago Almada.
After the match, Griezmann praised Lookman and the club’s atmosphere, highlighting how new signings are quickly integrated into the squad. He said, “Regarding Lookman, the idea is to enjoy the new players and let them give us nights of joy like this one. We are a team, a dressing room, a club, and a fanbase that makes things easy. From the first second, every new player is welcomed with open arms, and you can see that with the new signings.”
Head coach Diego Simeone also spoke highly of Lookman, emphasizing both his maturity and the qualities he brings to the team. Simeone said, “Ademola Lookman? He’s a grown man, he’s 28 years old. He came to help us and we hope to help him too so he can keep growing. He has qualities that are different from the players we already have, and that will make us better.”
Lookman himself expressed his delight after the game, reflecting on a memorable first appearance in Atlético colours. He said, “I’m very happy, very proud of my debut, especially because of the team’s performance.”
The performance marked a dream start for Lookman at Atlético Madrid and suggested he could play a crucial role for the club as the season progresses.
