Liverpool have successfully reached an agreement to sign highly rated centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, with the transfer scheduled for June 2026.
The deal is reported to be worth €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons, with Jacquet already agreeing personal terms with the Merseyside club. All arrangements with Rennes are now finalized, securing Liverpool one of the most talented young central defenders in world football.
Competition for Jacquet’s signature was intense. Chelsea previously showed strong interest but failed to reach an agreement with Rennes. In the final stages of negotiations, Manchester United attempted to hijack the deal, but the player had already made up his mind and remained committed to joining Liverpool.
Jacquet will stay at Rennes for the upcoming season, a move considered crucial for his development. Remaining in Ligue 1 will provide him with regular playing time and the opportunity to continue his progression while boosting his chances of being selected for Didier Deschamps’ France World Cup squad in the summer.
The young defender has already recorded 31 first-team appearances for Rennes, highlighting his rapid rise. Liverpool are now set to complete the signing in 2026 as part of their long-term defensive plans.
