Paulo Fonseca Reflects on Short-Lived Tenure at AC Milan

Paulo Fonseca has opened up about his brief spell at AC Milan, saying he believes he deserved more time at the club. Speaking about his experience, Fonseca described Milan as “an amazing club” and admitted he thoroughly enjoyed his time there, but expressed regret that he was not given enough time to fully implement his ideas.

“I deserved more time,” Fonseca said. “Milan is an amazing club and I enjoyed it a lot. I’m really sorry I didn’t have time — their proposal was to change the game to a more expansive style.”

The Portuguese coach explained that transforming a team’s long-established identity is a complex process, particularly in Italy. “To change one thing they had for so many years is not easy; you need time, especially in Italy, where it’s even more difficult, almost impossible,” he stated.

Fonseca highlighted that there were positive moments during his tenure, noting that the team produced some impressive performances. “We had amazing games, playing really good football. We needed to be more consistent, it’s true, but to change something in Italy is really difficult,” he added.

Fonseca’s time at Milan lasted just six months. He managed 24 matches in all competitions, recording 12 wins, six draws, and six losses before his departure.
