Takaichi Sanae: “I held a summit meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. I was truly delighted to welcome President Prabowo at the guest house.
“Indonesia is Japan’s “comprehensive strategic partner” and the only ASEAN member of the G20. Cooperation with Indonesia is essential for realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).”
“From my side, I conveyed my desire for Japan and Indonesia to make this region stronger and more prosperous together, and President Prabowo expressed his wish to further promote cooperation between our two countries and strengthen the “comprehensive strategic partnership.”
“Regarding bilateral relations, we had frank discussions on “strengthening cooperation in the economic and security fields.”
Specifically, we confirmed our intent to further advance cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, AZEC (Asian Zero Emission Community), energy, AI, disaster prevention, fisheries, and critical minerals—leveraging Japan’s strengths in the economic domain; cooperation in the security domain, including OSA (Official Security Assistance), maritime security, and defense cooperation; and cooperation in developing industrial talent.
“Moreover, amid increasingly severe international situations and security environments, we discussed Indo-Pacific affairs and North Korea, and confirmed our commitment to even closer collaboration.
“From my side, I also requested cooperation toward resolving the issue of abductions by North Korea. We discussed the situation in the Middle East as well, and I believe it was a significant achievement that President Prabowo and I were able to agree to “work together to calm the situation at an early stage.”
“We will also continue to support nation-building efforts in Palestine.
“At the luncheon, we had the band perform President Prabowo’s favorite songs. In a joyful atmosphere, with the accompanying Indonesian foreign minister even singing along to the music, we were able to build an even closer rapport with President Prabowo.
“Through this summit meeting and luncheon, we have established a foundation of trust with President Prabowo, and we will use it to further deepen communication with Indonesia.”
