Pep Lijnders, assistant coach at Manchester City, has confirmed that club captain Bernardo Silva will leave the club at the end of the season, bringing an end to a remarkable era.
Speaking on the situation, Lijnders acknowledged the significance of Silva’s departure and stressed that the midfielder deserves a proper farewell after years of dedicated service.
“Is Bernardo Silva leaving? Every good story comes to an end and I hope he enjoys the last months.”

Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City on July 1, 2017, from AS Monaco for a reported fee of £43.5 million. Since then, he has grown into one of the most influential players in the club’s modern history, recently reaching his 450th appearance. Over the course of his time at the club, he has recorded 76 goals and 77 assists, underlining his consistency and importance to the team.
During his nine year spell at Manchester City, Silva has won 19 major trophies, cementing his legacy as one of the club’s greats. His honours include six Premier League titles in the 2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24 seasons, as well as the UEFA Champions League in 2022-23.
He has also lifted the FA Cup twice in 2018-19 and 2022-23, along with five EFL Cup titles in the 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2025-26 seasons. In addition, Silva has won three Community Shields in 2018, 2019, and 2024, the UEFA Super Cup in 2023, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2023.
As the season draws to a close, attention will turn to Silva’s next destination, while Manchester City prepare to bid farewell to one of the most decorated and consistent players in their history.
