Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a post expressed gratitude as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced $200 million contribution to protecting the country from Russia strike during a Political Community summit in Yerevan, Armenia, on Monday.
Carney contributed to Ukraine’s PURL Initiative, approximately $270 million CAD (or an additional $200 million for specific PURL programs) in new military aid for Ukraine to funds NATO-prioritized items for defense.
The announcement reinforces Canada’s commitment to Ukraine, with Prime Minister Carney noting that “all of Canada” supports the country.
President Volodymyr Zelensky in a post wrote: “I am grateful to Canada for its strong support of the PURL initiative. The additional $200 million announced today by Prime Minister Mark J. Carney is an important contribution to protecting our people from Russia’s constant ballistic strikes. In total, Canada has already allocated more than $830 million to support this initiative. These are decisions that truly save lives.
“During the meeting, we discussed in detail strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and Canada, further support for our people, and efforts to bring back Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. We are grateful to our Canadian friends and to the entire nation for their strong support.” He added
