CAF has announced the nominations for the 2025 African Player of the Year award, with several top names in contention. Last year’s winner, Ademola Lookman, is not on the list, meaning a new winner will be crowned.
The nominees include André-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Napoli & Cameroon), Denis Bouanga (Los Angeles FC & Gabon), Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund & Guinea), Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain & Morocco), Oussama Lamlioui (Renaissance Berkane), Fiston Mayele (Pyramids & DR Congo), and Iliman Ndiaye (Everton & Senegal).
The leading contenders appear to be Fiston Mayele, who finished as the CAF Champions League top scorer and Golden Boot winner last season with Pyramids; Achraf Hakimi, who contributed nine goals and twelve assists while winning four trophies with Paris Saint-Germain; Mohamed Salah, who helped Liverpool win the Premier League title, finishing as both top scorer and leading playmaker; and Victor Osimhen, who guided Galatasaray to a league and cup double after scoring thirty-seven goals and providing seven assists.
