21-Year-Old Nursing Mother Stabs Neighbour To Death Over Alleged Rape In Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old nursing mother, Maryam Muntari, for allegedly stabbing her neighbour, Ahmed Isah, popularly known as Kalo, to death following an alleged attempted rape incident in Idoji-Okene community, Okene Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP William Aya, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the tragic event occurred around 5:30 a.m. at the victim’s residence in Idoji quarters.

According to residents, the suspect, Maryam Muntari, is a nursing mother and wife of a man who had been a long-time neighbour and political acquaintance of the deceased.

It was gathered that on the morning of the incident, Kalo met Maryam at a water fetching point and asked her to help carry a jerrycan of water to his house, which she accepted. Upon reaching his residence, he allegedly locked the main door to his room while she was dropping the water and attempted to assault her.

“Sensing danger, the nursing woman reportedly pretended to comply and followed him quietly to his bedroom. Thinking she had given in, the man dropped the knife to take off his clothes. She quickly picked it up and stabbed him.

Kalo’s cry for help reportedly drew the attention of neighbors, but he died before help could reach him,” the resident revealed.

Police operatives later arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody. The Command confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Reference Hospital Mortuary, Okene, for autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
