Bayern Munich made it 16 wins in 16 games this season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League. Luis Diaz scored both goals for Bayern, while Joao Neves found the net for PSG.
Despite being the match winner, Diaz was later sent off for a foul on Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi, forcing Bayern to finish the game with ten men.
After the match, Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany praised his side’s resilience and defensive discipline in the face of relentless PSG pressure.
“It was hard work and emotions today; those are the feelings we had after the game. In the end we did it together,” Kompany said.
“I also want us to enjoy it when we have to defend. We work on it a lot in training. That’s why I wasn’t surprised that we did it well. We know that the Champions League isn’t decided yet, but today was a really important three points for us.”
“Don’t believe the hype. You’re not that good, and if you lose, you’re not that bad,” he added with a smile.
Kompany highlighted his team’s strong defensive structure and collective spirit, noting that despite facing a numerical disadvantage and enduring 25 shots from PSG, Bayern’s organisation and unity made the difference.
The win cements Bayern’s place as one of the most in-form teams in Europe, maintaining a perfect record in all competitions so far this season.
Bayern will now turn their attention back to domestic football as they prepare to face Union Berlin in their next Bundesliga fixture.
